Official Website of Christa Johnson, MD – Published Author and Cape Cod Local.
This website is all about healing. It is divided into three parts.
➤ Curing… Western Medicine cures concrete diseases of our physical human bodies.
➤ Reality… Many real symptoms, much pain and suffering have no obvious physical cause, thus no medical cure.
➤ Consider… The human body is just housing for something so much more important.
➤ Healing… Is only possible when we discover and make peace with everything that we are.

Esssays about accepting life as it is, not as we wish it would be. Although we think we need to heal from all the bad things that have happened to us, it is the tough times and all that we learn from them that heal us!
PART 2 – Swimming Beneath the Iceberg: Healing Beyond Western Medicine

Swimming Beneath the Iceberg: Healing Beyond Western Medicine
Why I Became an Author…
As a young adult, when life began throwing its inevitable
sucker punches, I turned to journaling to make sense of it all. Through this practice, I discovered that it was the
difficult times that fueled my growth, helped me find my
true self, and defined my life’s purpose. From these
journals, six books emerged. Two have been published,
while four await their final journey to publication.
In our culture, we are often led to believe that life should
be perfect. But in reality, it’s far from it, and this unrealistic expectation causes suffering. Only through accepting life as it is can we hope to find peace and happiness.
First as a psychiatric social worker and later a family
practice and hospice physician, I’ve learned that while
Western medicine is remarkable, it only addresses part of the human experience. By focusing solely on the physical body, we miss the deeper, more profound essence within. My writing aims to look beyond the physical to encompass all that we are—where true healing, beyond mere curing, takes place.

Introduction to Life, Death, Love, Loss, and a Raucous Good Time
PART 1 ARTICLE 1
We all wish for lives of boundless joy, devoid of suffering, filled only with love and light. But life, in truth, encompasses death, love, loss, and every shade in between. Tragedy strikes unexpectedly, and we’re reminded that our lives are not immune to the pain or grief we often imagine happen only to others.
When we encounter hardship, our personal growth and emotional well-being are tested as we struggle to find meaning. Clinging to an ideal of perfection intensifies our suffering, yet when we accept life as a balance of joy and sorrow, love and loss, light and darkness, resilience takes root. So, why does life unfold this way?
The lessons I’ve learned through my own adversities — lessons I’d never have chosen — have been profound. During these periods of grief and upheaval, we are called to discover an inner strength we may not have known we possessed. Coping mechanisms that once seemed sufficient can fail us, leading us to a deeper self-discovery and ultimately to peace. For some, peace is found in prayer or spiritual healing; for others, it’s an emerging inner wisdom, often unseen in easier times.
Through this self-discovery, we realize our interconnectedness with others. Compassion grows for those also facing adversity, reminding us of our shared humanity. We find not only the wisdom but also the resilience to face even the toughest life challenges. In recognizing that personal growth, mindfulness, and self-acceptance are integral, we understand that enduring life’s challenges grants it a deeper purpose.
This collection of essays explores life’s richness and complexity — from life, death, love, and loss, to illness, alcoholism, family dynamics, the hate-filled world, and finding peace within chaos. These reflections delve into topics such as self-image, mindfulness, Buddhist philosophy, aging, and the limitations of Western medicine, underscoring that we are far more than our physical selves.
The “raucous good time” in my title celebrates the joy and laughter that make life bearable even amid hardship. Friends, family, and the moments of joy life offers become our anchors through life’s tumultuous journey. Without laughter, smiles, and a shared experience, life would lose its richness and resilience.
I invite you to share your thoughts on Facebook. In our shared experiences, we connect to one another in our humanity, fostering a world of compassion and empathy. Whatever the challenges we face, we’re all in this together, collectively responsible for offering the best of ourselves. View the orginal article and listen to the author’s audio – here.
